How does the EURO 2024 Bracket work?

The EURO 2024 bracket is a two-part adventure to find Europe’s football champion.

First up is the Group Stage, where teams are split into groups, typically six groups with four teams each. Here, every team plays against the others in its group just once. Teams earn points for every game, with a win bringing 3 points, a draw 1 point, and a loss none.

The best-performing teams, usually the top two from each group along with some of the best third-placed teams, make it to the next stage. The number of these third-placed teams can change.

Then comes the Knockout Stage, which includes the Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and the big Final. This stage is all about sudden death – if a match is tied after regular time, it goes into extra time and, if needed, a penalty shoot-out to decide the winner.

The Round of 16 matches up group winners, runners-up, and sometimes third-placed teams following a preset bracket. Teams that win their matches move on to the next round, and this continues until only two teams are left to battle it out in the Final.
